Blow-dried hair is more popular than ever. Beauty magazines are littered with luxuriously flowing hairdos. Looking at your stylist creating long bouncy curls that make your hair seem fuller may look easy, but will you be able to achieve the same look at home? To get the job done, you’ll need a good hairbrush just as much as a dryer. That said, you may have a hard time finding the perfect brush for a Hollywood-style result.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT BRUSH SHAPE
A flat or square brush is used mainly to untangle hair and can be handy when you don’t have time to blow-dry. Even a quick brush will add luster. If you’re looking for more volume and shape, go for a round brush.
TYPES OF BRISTLES ON THE MARKET
Most brushes now have a ceramic base to lock in and circulate heat. As for bristles, they are usually made of boar bristles or nylon.
Boar bristles are denser and used mainly to straighten hair. If you want more root volume and wavy tips, go for a nylon brush. Hair penetrates deeper between nylon bristles which gives more traction.
CHOOSING THE SIZE OF A ROUND BRUSH
For short hair, opt for a smaller brush that will give volume to the root. The bigger the brush, the more hair you’ll straighten (meaning less volume). If you find the tips too straight, it’s probably a sign that the brush is too big. A smaller diameter should do a better job.
